Aloha mai, Chris here.

The morning light is currently bending over the ridge of Mānoa and I am making my way down the mountain to pick up Kalani from da airport. Last time we saw each other was the final clip in our Ho’i I Ka Piko video diary. Looking forward to continuing our journey as we prepare to welcome the great voyaging canoes to Hakipu’u (North of Kahalu’u where ‘A‘ā is docked). Saturday will be the 50th anniversary of Hokule‘a’s original launching ceremony off those very same sands.

What an epic weekend together as a hui wa‘a. After 20 hours spent hand sewing, planing, varnishing, lashing and rigging, we set sail on our new and improved ‘A‘ā! All preparation was greeted with the undeniable rush of blasting 7 knots on a close reach over Ahu o Laka.
Not only do our new sails work, but they fly!
In about half an hours time, we arrived at Hakupu‘u and were greeted with ‘Ohana wa’a from all over the islands. The following day was beautiful. We sat and watched the stars, listened to kupuna for hours and felt the mana of everyones chants and hula. Here are some photos that might show more of a story than I could tell.

Mahalo for tuning in and supporting us as we voyage through this life :) you are all so appreciated!
