Aloha Kaua,
Chris here.
So stoked to be finally home after a few weeks working on ‘A‘ā. I successfully de installed our folding hull covers and fabricated hatches from 3/4 marine ply. Beyond grateful to the Mariner family for hosting my stay, and to Garrett for helping me engineer the hinges. Really felt the aloha out there.
Ive begun filming little vlog episodes to start documenting the process, but haven’t edited them yet . . . so here are some screen grabs.
I want to give a huge shoutout to Andrew at Ola Canvas for showing me how to glass, dialing me In with gear, an inviting me into their workshop (which so happened to be right down the street!) Some paths are meant to be crossed.

my favorites are the Bravo Woven and Souvenir short. Pictured here in use during our work days.
Another highlight of my trip was the occasional 20 min dusk surfs with our dear friend professor Dan. Sometimes work gets to us, and we forget to breathe. Gotta keep encouraging each other to play more so work becomes more purposeful. One of the following mornings I was given another opportunity to lead a workshop at LCAD. The topic was circular design in footwear. Ever since my partnership with Globe ended, footwear became less of a necessity and more of a creative endeavor. Pictured here are some of the shoes we made out of backyard findings.
Always so stoked to see the students creativity and desire to make rad things out of recycled material!
I love the human freedom to make useful items out of waste or excess material.
However, some things are definitely wise to buy new. One of which, is certified gear to ensure safety while at sea. Things like emergency raft, satellite communication, water makers and self steering technology really add up the debt.
Furthermore, Ive decided that I cannot afford it myself and made a GoFund me page for anyone willing to financially support -> https://www.gofundme.com/f/bring-our-canoe-home
