to my brother,
from here in block island to where you are, just miles off home. staring up at the same night sky, though the sun in yours has only recently set.
a shooting star is but a tiny wisp here, amidst the endless mast lights and summer serenades.
i was thinking about that one time we went into the lava fields back home and the stars were all around us like never before. and how absolutely beyond it must be, out there in the grand pacific.
i’m so proud of you for all of this - for the mindfulness with which you navigate this world, and thoughtfulness and thoroughness and kindness.
the way you share about our home brings a piece of home through to so many, in ways that go so effervescently beyond.
i wish i were there so majorly!! to feel the warm breeze, the kind that only the tradewinds know. and see the tiny white birds, the ones that say ‘you’ve found your way back!’ as they always do.
to see home in as new a perspective as it is familiar. molly and po and mom and dad.
ke’ili - you’re a frickin hammah.
i can’t wait to hear about all your adventures and I’m so grateful to have you to call when I need EPIRB lessons, or just a sista to take one more ocean dip with.
kalani - may your iphone rest in peace, way down there on the ocean floor. my mom says you’re a really good note-taker though, so hopefully all things analog have served you well.
to say thank you for being such an integral part of this journey would hardly even begin. you and maya are amazing and i can’t wait to meet u.
welina me ke aloha, a ho’omaikai!
wish i were home on this day with all of my heart
❤️ dana
