ʻAʻā Plans
Ethnomads to do list
Aloha mai, Keili here
We have spent the last couple of days making tons of lists. I love making to-do lists but this was especially exciting because… we are prepping to put ʻAʻā back in the water!
With a lot of exciting things going on - like Chris x Mimaʻs fashion show at Capital Modern (Mahalo nui to all who came to take part!!), my new job (woohoo!) and Chris releasing his first book (buy/share here) - thinking ahead at all that we need to do is kind of needed because we do not have the brain power at all times to constantly be thinking of what to do next and all the things we have to do prior.

We made it to 300 subscribers - yay!
We started writing these posts in California from our hanai uncles garage that we were sleeping in while our (new, and yet entirely broken) engine was getting “fixed” and we were learning so much through trial and fire and felt like we needed to 1) write it all down so we didn’t forget anything, and 2) share with other aspiring voyagers with a low budget and dreams to explore!
Mahalo nui loa for all the support, and for occasionally reading our little ramblings. We love and appreciate you deeply.
Today
we worked a bit on the transom and hatches, putting some fillets & hot coats down to make sure she’s strong for the open seas. We also worked on our yard/spar and boom, drilling and then doing a layer of epoxy to create a puka that doesn’t expose any wood. We are excited to get our new engine soon, leaning towards a long shaft 20 horse power with a generator from what recommendations and mana’o has been passed down our way. We want to ensure we feel confident in what we got before we enter those channels! Our hatches look pretty snazzy, I will say. Learning to fillet and epoxy and lay down carbon fiber has been a fun challenge. It is a balance of being a perfectionist, using a perfectly shaped tool, and going fast as hell.
Coming up
We are pushing for a launch from Kahana Bay later this month. If anyone is interested, please let us know - we need all the hands we can get :)
All Kaua’i friends and ʻohana
Chris and I will be flying out on June 27th to share the ‘A’ā film at Common Ground and show off a big beautiful mural that Bryce & Chris painted together. It will be good times, yummy grinds, and it’s free! So please, join us! yay!

This week is just a quick update - but if you want to see more boat work action, I made a vlog and wanted to share it with you :) Mahalo for making it this far, and for allowing us to share our adventures!
